Where will the colloquium be held this year?

The colloquium will be taking place online on Friday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6. Friday will feature panels from the cancelled 2020 BHPC colloquium, Ghostly Voices, and Saturday will feature panels from this year’s theme, The Book Out of Order.

Who can attend the Colloquium and what is the cost?

The colloquium is free and open to the public. Registration is required, however.

How do I register for the Colloquium?

To register for the colloquium, please email Julia Warren at BookHistory@masseycollege.ca. Once you have registered, you will receive an email with the Zoom meeting links.

How do I access the colloquium once I’ve registered?

A Zoom link with a password will be shared shortly after registration. You will be able to access the Zoom link on the day of the presentations. A free Zoom account will be necessary to attend.

Who IS the keynote speaker this year?

This year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Jessica Lockhart, Head of Research of the University of Toronto’s Old Books New Science Lab as well as the Book and the Silk Roads project. She will be speaking on Saturday, March 6 at 1:05pm. You can find out more about her on our Keynote Speaker page.

How do I apply for the colloquium?

For individual paper proposals, please submit a single document containing the following elements:

  • Abstract (150–200 words) of the proposed 15-minute paper
  • Short bio of the presenter (100–150 words) including name, institutional affiliation (if applicable), and email address
  • Time zone (to accommodate all presenters)

All applications should be sent to bhpccolloquium2021@gmail.com.

Can I submit a panel Proposal?

Yes you can!

For panel proposals, please submit a single document containing the following elements:

  • Brief overview of the proposed panel theme
  • Abstract for each panel presenter (150–200 words)
  • Biographical statement of each presenter (100–150 words)

If I applied to last year’s colloquium, can I apply again with the same abstract?

Yes. We welcome applicants who were scheduled to speak last year to resubmit their proposals for consideration.

What is the Deadline for submissions?

The deadline for paper and panel proposals is January 11, 2021.
